The Circle Exhibition at Depot Gallery in Red Wing, MN

A ceramic cup is formed by throwing one wall from a lump of clay on the wheel. I took the idea of the cup further by throwing multiple, short walls, playing with shape, line quality, and scale to create a new language of objects. The flat, concentric circular forms invite you to apply your own meaning to the objects, individually and as a collective. The metaphors and stories that we carry add richness to our lives, and I am interested in the varying associations that come from observing the forms. The concentric circular forms also reference cycles, layers and radiating energy – qualities inherent in our environment and in us.

I'm happy to say I'm part of this show even before teaching "Exploring Ceramics" as an instructor for the 2018 Winter and Spring sessions at Hopkins Community Education. Really looking forward to getting to know the Hopkins community while sharing fun techniques and working with different materials in clay!

MN NICE Exhibition at the Northern Clay Center

This exhibition features the work of seven emerging artists from the third graduating MN NICE class. Their work ranges from functional pots to multi-media sculpture. These bodies of work evolved through one-on-one dialogue with mentoring artists, individual research, and lively group critiques. Work in the exhibition is the result of yearlong investigations into each artist’s questions, motivations, and perspectives.

"Unearthed". Elmer's glue, eco-insulation, straw, Edgar Plastic Kaolin, alfalfa seeds, moss, buttermilk, plastic, birch plywood, and double-sided tape. 8'6" x 30". 2017.

Future: Made Here

Artist Statement for Made Here:

I explore multiples and minimalistic forms that contain a narrative, a personal story. I enjoy playing with nuances in scale and shape in the repetition of my work to create a new language of objects. The concentric circular forms in the installation are open to interpretation, individually and as a collective. They could serve as mini portals into time and invite you to apply your own meaning to the objects. The metaphors and stories that we carry add richness to our lives, and I am interested in the varying associations that come from observing the forms. The concentric circular forms also reference cycles, layers and radiating energy – qualities inherent in our environment and in us. When looking through the voids of the centers, across the undulating forms, and spaces in between – how do you see your future unfolding?

Exhibition on view until August 30, 2017.
