Inspired by places I have lived, I integrate impressions of varying cultures and experiences in my work. My broad study of art, culture and plant materials informs my focus of working in ceramics. I enjoy the intuitive and tactile journey of creating each piece. I am interested in connecting my passion for the natural world with the cultural to create functional and intimate objects. Captivated by the endless possibilities inherent in clay, I am interested in making, using, and viewing ceramic work.
I am attracted to the multi-step process of working in ceramics - starting with a ball of clay and adding detail, requiring careful handling as the work evolves. In my work, I explore surface design using slip transfer, sgraffito, faceting and inlay techniques on wheel-thrown stoneware and porcelain. I am drawn to the idea that there is great beauty and meaning in connecting seemingly simple materials and concepts. Beyond the finished state, it is my hope that the owner activates the work in their daily life.
